– Attractions and Activities close to Peninsula –
Article by David, owner of Wherry Cottage
You could easily spend your entire holiday around the cottage grounds and marina; just relaxing and watching the world go by. But for the more adventurous there’s plenty to do all from within walking distance of your cottage.

River Trips & Day Boats
Take a walk around the Norfolk Broads Direct marina to Broads Tours ticket office and pre-book for one of their several different sightseeing boat tours. In the summer there’s even musical evening trips with live bands. Or hire a day boat or day cruiser from either Broads Tours or MC Marinefor anything from an hour, half-day or day, or even for your whole stay. This gives you the freedom to explore the quiet Swallows & Amazons type river above Wroxham Bridge towards Coltishall, or take the downstream trip past the “picture postcard” thatched cottages with their gardens rolling down to the river, into Wroxham Broad and Salhouse Broad. Then on to Horning for a lunch at the Swan, New Inn or Ferry Inn. You may want more than a day to do all this.

** See the Guest Discount Offers page for details of special offers on dayboat hire and rivertrips, exclusive to Peninsula Cottage guests ***

Fishing
Being able to fish on site – and in some cases directly from the patio of your cottage – is one of Peninsula’s major attractions. Fishing enthusiasts are well-served in the locality, the closest tackle and bait shop being Wroxham Angling (01603 782453) in the town.

Canoeing
The Canoeman centre by the bridge is a good starting place to gather local information, hire a canoe, kayak, or bicycle and go for an adventure, by river, road or cycleway. They also offers guided canoe trails
Canoe Hire is also available from Barnes Boatyard (01603 782625), or those bringing their own canoes may wish to call at Norfolk Marine

Lastly, you can find out more about canoeing the Norfolk Broads from the official web site:

Cycling

For information on local cycling routes see www.bvrw.co.uk and The Broads By Bike website which gives detailed information on local bike routes: The Broads by Bike

Rail Trips
A 5-minute walk from the shopping centre brings you to the Bure Valley Railway (next to the main station) offers a nostalgic trip back to the steam engine days with an 18 mile round trip to the ancient market town of Aylsham. A cycle and footpath has been constructed along the railways entire length allowing cyclists and walkers of all abilities to enjoy the Norfolk countryside. Making several stops at small villages along the way you may walk or cycle for all or some of the journey, taking your bike on the train. At Aylsham there is a gift shop and tearoom. (See walking and cycling below)

Even closer to Peninsula is the riverside Barton House Railway (01603) 782008 – a unique miniature railway that is open to the public on selected dates throughout the summer.
